Hackers Interrupt National Telecommunications Conference

Hackers were successful on Wednesday, December 6 in bringing down the event website for the World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT-12) being held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Downtime and resulting performance degradation lasted for nearly two hours.

Recent Syrian Internet Blackout Confirmed by CDN Akamai

On Thursday, CDN Akamai, as well as several other web monitoring companies released data, which confirms that Syria has suffered a nationwide Internet outage. A large number of experts believe that this outage is the result of the desperate actions by the Syrian government in their struggle to try and stop the civil war currently raging in the country.

Iran Sanctioned For Internet Censorship by the US

Several sources have recently reported that the US has sanctioned Iran over internet and media censorship. Apparently, the US Department of State reported to the US Congress four Iranian individuals and five Iranian entities that have engaged in censorship or other activities that prohibit, limit, or penalize freedom of expression or assembly by citizens of Iran.
